General Framework

The Community Initiative ADAPT is one of the thirteen initiatives of the Community Structural funds, for the period 1994 - 1999.

The ADAPT Initiative has four interdependent goals:

  1. To precipitate the adjustment of the work force to industrial changes.
  2. To increase the competitiveness of industry, services and
  3. To increase the qualifications as well as the flexibility commerce and mobility of employees, so as to prevent unemployment.
  4. To predict and precipitate new jobs and activities, mainly these that are closely related of the SME.

The industrial change is a complex phenomenon that is connected with the consequences that the internationalization of the economy, the restructuring of productive systems, the burst of the sciences of informatics and communication, the radical decrease of employment in traditional sectors and the change of the organization schemes of labour have on economy, enterprises and employees.

Based on the activities financed under ADAPT, it is expected that new ideas and approaches concerning the phenomenon of industrial change will be developed and implemented, so that innovative methods for the orientation of the working force will be promoted and the professional perspectives of the employees as well as the structures of support for the introduction of new and innovative practices and ideas,  will have the potential to influence the policies followed concerning the work market on a local, national and international level.

PROJECT: ‘ELECTRONIC COMMERCE & SMALL MEDIUM - SIZED ENTERPRISES’

Description of the project

The radical technological evaluations in the field of informatics and telecommunications have caused a revolution in many sectors of human life and work. This evolution is in process. The technological achievements influence and change our lifestyle as well as the way work is conducted in enterprises. The technological changes in enterprises can be a significant weapon in their hands in order to survive and evolve a competitive world. Electronic commerce is one of these technological changes. It renders enterprises capable of surviving competition and of increasing capacity.

The implementation of the electronic commerce (E.C.) in an enterprise presupposes:

The present project aims at implementing E.C. in the Greek Small and Medium sized enterprises, with the objective:

All these consequences and changes relate not only to the work - force of the SME but also the SME themselves as business units.

The implementation of the current proposal requires co- operation among countries of the Community. Its objectives are:

In any case, the starting - point for this proposal was the needs of the Greek SME. Its consultative guide was the community experience, achievements and models.

This project basically refers to the penetration of the E.C. into the small and medium - sized enterprises of the region of Epirus. Its ulterior purpose is not only the SME but also other interested bodies throughout the country.

Project Objective: Promotion of the Electronic Commerce small and medium - sized enterprises with the objective of increasing competitiveness among industries, services and the trade, creating new vacancies in sectors of high technology and improving working conditions.
