Prefecture of Arta
The prefecture of Arta lies on the southeast part of the geographical apartment of the region of Epirus. The total surface of the prefecture comes up to 1.662 klmē , a 18% of the surface of Epirus. The population, according to the 1991 census reaches 7.719 inhabitants which are distributed as following:
The capital of the Prefecture is Arta.
The active human source comes up to 27.776 inhabitants, that is 35.2%, whereof the majority are employed in the primary and tertiary sector.
According to the economic characteristics of the prefecture , it is noted that the industrial activity is mainly focused on the packaging and elaboration of agricultural products. The cultivations that in favor of are arboriculture, phytogenic products, pisciculture, cattle-breeding and olive trees.
The area has many natural beauties to illustrate such as the rare hygro-biotope of the Amvrakikos Bay, the Louros and Arachtos river delta, the lagoon with the plenty fowl and fish fauna , the salvage and woody forests, the natural landscapes of rare beauty.
The prefecture has many developmental potentials which are based on the geographical position, the natural sources, the international and the Balkan market.
