Prefecture of Thesprotia
The Prefecture of Thesprotia is located in the north west end of Greece and occupies less than1,5% of the country’s land. Particularly, the total area is 152,000 acres and it has a population of 44.188 inhabitant’s, according to the 1991 census.
The capital of the Prefecture is Igoumenitsa.
During the last decade the population of the Prefecture increased by 7,08%. The active population is 15.000 people of which 36% are involved in the primary sector, 23% in the secondary, and 41% in the tertiary sector.
The geomorphology of the Prefecture is largely semi-mountainous (40%), while the flat land covers only 17% oh the Prefecture.
Egnatia highway as well as the port if Igoumenitsa, which is rebuilded and modernized, positions Igoumenitsa entrepreneur and trade link between East and West.
Thesprotia, with its endless beauties and infinitive picturesque beaches, underlies the gate of Greece to Europe, opening transaction routes with all countries.
